Dr. Scott Swinden

Scott Swinden is a consulting geoscientist with extensive experience in both public and private sectors. Dr. Swinden’s experience includes 14 years with the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources as Director of Minerals and Energy Division and Executive Director of the Mineral Resources Branch. Before that, he served for 17 years as a research scientist and manager with Newfoundland Geological Survey and the Geological Survey of Canada and more than 6 years in private sector mineral exploration in Canada and the United States. Dr. Swinden has served in advisory roles on national and international scientific initiatives including the former Canadian National Committee for the Ocean Drilling Program, the Mineral Industry Technology Council of Canada, the National Mapping Program (NATMAP), and the editorial boards of Economic Geology and Atlantic Geology. He is a Fellow and former President of the Geological Association of Canada, a member and Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists, and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Nova Scotia. He is currently President of the Canadian Geological Foundation.

Dr. Swinden represented the Department of Natural Resources on the Joggins Fossil Cliffs Transition Team and on the Joggins Fossil Cliffs Advisory Board from its inception in 2005. He chairs the JFI Science Advisory Committee.
